Blockbuster wines with disproportionally low price tags. I mean, there is some other stuff going on in Australia, but this is where most people tend to focus. Shiraz and Cabernet are the 'red' stars of the show, with Chardonnay as the predominant white, but there are some truly exceptional winemakers experimenting with pretty much every grape varietal on the planet, with (usually) exceptional results. It's worth remembering when talking about Australian wine, that there is an absolutely astonishing variation in terroir across the country (as one might expect of a country with a land-mass 33 times that of the UK), and that matching grape to terroir (territory?) becomes a lot easier when you've got such space to play with.
