Welsh Whisky

Welsh whisky, a burgeoning segment within the whisky world, represents a revival of a centuries-old tradition in Wales. While the history of whisky production in Wales dates back to the Middle Ages, the industry had all but disappeared by the late 19th century. Utilising pure Welsh spring water and a unique distillation process, Penderyn has put Welsh whisky back on the map, gaining international recognition for its quality.

Welsh whiskies, including those produced by Penderyn, are known for their smoothness and complexity. The distillation process often involves the use of a unique Faraday still, which allows for a single continuous distillation process. This method contributes to the creation of a spirit that is refined and flavourful, with a character distinct from its Scottish and Irish counterparts.

The flavour profile of Welsh whisky often includes notes of fruit, vanilla, and spice, with a smooth and well-rounded finish. The use of different types of cask finishing, such as Madeira, bourbon, sherry, and port casks, imparts additional layers of flavour and complexity to the whisky.
