Cold-Distilled Absinthe Bottling Note

A supremely delicious absinthe from Ableforth's. This fine spirit is made by macerating a selection of superb botanicals in English wheat spirit. These botanicals include traditional fare such as Artemisia Absinthium (Grand Wormwood, from which this spirit gets its name), Aniseed, Fennel and Liquorice, and a select blend of contemporary ingredients including Coriander Seed, Fresh Lemon Peel, and Bitter Orange Peel. After the ingredients have been allowed to macerate, the spirit is cold-distilled in a vacuum still (producing a crystal clear distillate).

This extraordinary vacuum still technique allows the liquid in this most marvellous contraption to boil at no more than room temperature, retaining all the freshness and extraordinary vibrancy of the botanicals used in its preparation. You won't get much (if any) louche effect here, but this is an excellent and surprisingly approachable absinthe given that it's bottled at a jaw-dropping 91.2% abv!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Very light and fresh. The lemon, aniseed and fennel are present, but in a completely new, fresh way. The cold-distillation clearly plays a huge role here. ABV is huge.

Palate: A veritable explosion of flavour. None of the 'cooked' flavour, but rather extreme, almost minty summer freshness. Anise is well controlled, allowing the other botanicals to appear in their own right.

Finish: Long and lingering, but with freshness still the watchword.

Cold-Distilled Absinthe Reviews

Best bottle if you can find

I remember buying a bottle a few years ago now it's still the best tasting absinthe I've had wish I could find more great on it's own or mixed with lemonade 2 shots of blue bolls and a dash of blackcurrant lethal as it's strong in alchohol but it don't taste strong yea best ever.

A strong independent absinthe who don't need no reviewers

i disagree, strongly, with everyone else. Ok, so it's not an absinthe. It's a spirit, similar to a vodka, made with the same type of flavours which absinthe generally uses. I find this drink absolutely divine, it kicks like a mule, but leaving a delicious flora taste in the mouth and a fierce heat throughout the body. I know what i like, and even if this doesn't do *funny colors* with water, i would take this any day over the many absinthe who are otehrwise just a very strong sambuca. It has character, it has strength, and i love the taste. Make your own decision.

For those concerned about the lack of Louche - it says this loud and proud above. It's really not a normal absinthe - closer to a flavoured vodka, but the freshness and delciousness of this is totally unique.

PRO'S & CON'S

PRO'S, IT'S A NICE BOTTLE.
CON'S, NO LOUCHE EQUALS NO OIL , NO LOUCHE EQUALS NO FUN WHEN WATER ADDED, I LIKE THE CLOUDING EFFECT OK !!.
EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS.
WEAK TASTE DUE TO COLD DISTILLED, WELL I SUSPECT THAT'S THE CAUSE OF MY DISAPPOINTMENT.
IT DOSEN'T COME ACROSS AS HAVING A VERY HIGH ABV.
THE CHOICE IS YOUR'S AND IT'S A GREAT JOB IF YOU LIKE THIS ABSINTHE. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES AND PALATE'S.
ME, I'LL JUST STICK TO THE JADE ABSINTHE'S.

START OF THE LARGE BOTTLE.

I AM VERY UNDERWHELMED WITH THIS ABSINTHE, MY PREVIOUS REVIEW WAS VERY POSSITIVE THOUGH, I FIND THE FINNISH SHORT, LACKING IN FLAVOUR,PLUS THE LACK OF LOUCHE MAKES THIS RATHER ORDINARY TIPPLE.

@ No Louche?

Yeah - you're absolutely right - there's virtually no louche at all given the fact that it's cold-distilled (despite the fact that actually a ludicrous amount of botanicals are used. I'm very close to 100% confident that we use more than anyone else in the world).

We're not aiming to compete with the hot-distilled super-intense absinthes that are out there, and we think the cold-distillation brings out a lot of the more gentle, complex flavours in the botanicals. We see this as a positive point of difference rather than a failure, but if you're really unhappy with the product we'd be more than happy to take it back and issue a refund?

Careful With This Stuff

Very powerful, and instant chest warmer. Gentle flavor to be appreciated. I have mine straight as I always prefer spirits this way. Nice aftertaste as well IMO. Great product to be careful with. Will buy again in the future. :-)
