Taking care to respect the legacy of the spirit, Distilleries Et Domaines De Provence create their Grande Absente Absinthe using a recipe that was devised prior to the spirit's ban, including wormwood. It has been bottled at a traditionally high strength of 69% ABV.
Wow, 3 parts water 1part Absente with one sugar cube, so smooth quite possibly dangerous!!!
While the delivery and service from Masters of Malt was very good, the product itself was a disappointment. too bitter and simply unpleasant to drink. I did of course mixed it with cold water 1 to 5 ratio and added a sugar cube.but even with 3 sugar cubes it was disgusting.too bitter like some old medicine.to me it tastes like bad vodka mixed with Underberg (another awful herbal spirit) and the effect? even after 4 (unpleasant) glasses only very mild. I normally drink bourbons, rums and brandy.this was a failure.
I've been working my way through a number of absinthes & found this to be my favourite! Even after many more bottles, it remains the best no-frills bottle for me. I just hope it comes back into stock soon hah!
After trying several absinthes this is my personal favourite. It is beautifully bitter, which can be easily adjusted to your taste with sugar cubes. I must admit that I enjoyed 3 cubes with this absinthe :) The level of thujone is also perfectly balanced for a wonderful absinthe experience.
Superb old spirit if drunk with respect for a long term follower of Maigret.
