Master of Malt Aultmore 5 Bottling Note

This Aultmore from our single cask range is a Speysider that displays an intriguing complexity well beyond its years, whilst still maintaining a citrus-y freshness. This stems from the fact that it was matured in a first-fill sherry. It was distilled on the 12th March 2007, aged for 5 years and bottled in May 2012. A release of 628 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Cocoa powder powers in first with lemon zest and freshly squeezed lime hot on its tail. Then arrives a duet of caramel and malt forming a leathery aroma that quite frankly belies this dram's years. Beneath this strong introduction lies a bed of mingling spice and roasting cocoa beans.

Palate: At first rich dried fruits stewing in cognac greet the palate but then come higher notes of grapefruit, champagne truffles and subtle oak chased by sugar syrup and orange liqueur.

Finish: Soft leather and earth with a dusting of white pepper, ultimately incredibly smooth by any whisky's standards let alone one of this age.

Overall: This whisky boasts a symphony of aroma and flavour coupled with a long, drawn out finish that delights the palate. Surprisingly the high strength of this malt is well integrated into the balance of the drink, allowing minimal addition of water if so desired. Truly astounding stuff.

Aultmore 5 Year Old - Single Cask (Master of Malt) Reviews

Rich aroma, malt loaf, toasted tea cakes, candied peel. Mega mega taste, just keeps giving. Rich after taste in back of mouth, with similar oaky taste to Aberlour A'bunadh and Sazerac Rye. Lots of gingerbread, very spicy. Wonderful!

Well, I am back. This one is clear Silver Medal winner in the recently concluded Malt Maniacs Awards. Here is my blind tasting Notes: On nose- Herbal. Reminds me of my childhood days of particular herb my grandmother used to give me for cough and cold- Chebulic Myrobalan- (botanical name), odd woody notes later developing into nice spicy pickled notes, oh this is the herb returns again, some coffee toffee/chocolates. On Palate very syrupy sweet and spicy and hot, some organics, very high a.b.v whisky, Long hot firy finish oh, do I get cinnamon in the end?- 91 points, A classy whisky
