Bowmore Tempest Batch 5 Bottling Note

From the oldest distillery on Islay comes the fifth release of Bowmore's 10 year old Tempest single malt Scotch whisky. This annual release is matured in first-fill bourbon casks and presented at cask strength. These often go down a storm, especially with fans of peated whisky.

Cask Strength Bowmore... Nice

So I saw this today at my usual place for $50 and thought for a cask strength seemed like a hell of a deal so I picked it up.Now I live in California so it isn't called Tempest because of a trademark issue or some stupid s''t so mines called Dorus Mor but it is the same whisky as tempest and mine is bottled at 55.9% so safe to assume it is batch 5 I think. This is incredibly complex for just 10 years old if only all scotch was cask strength it would all be spectacular anyways I get a lot of oak and peat similar to Laphraoig QC but more vanilla from the bourbon casks, but there is a considerable amount of different fruits in here I get limes and grapefruit with some peaches ,raisins and apples and that coastal briny tang that I love in good whisky.Beautifully done can't believe the same distillery that make this also makes Bowmore 12 year which was my least favorite Islay. I got this 10 bucks cheaper than the 12 year and this tastes 10 times better and is 15% stronger...nice.I officially respect you Bowmore this is great stuff I also liked the small batch. As cask strengths go best value I've found by far as well I'd buy this over Uigaedail or Corryvreckan just because its so much cheaper and I got Glenfarclas 105 recently which is just a 10 year cask strength(that I absolutely love)but that was twice the cost of this.I am impressed on all fronts on this was gonna give it a 9 but now it gets a 10 since its so reasonably priced. Cheers! The Sugarbear

Nevada Camel

OUTSTANDING! I tried a sample of this and soon afterward bought a bottle. Such a range of scents and flavors I have never before experienced. I had a bit last night and just let it rest after the dram was through, and the finish just got better and better for almost 10 minutes. Just buy some, you won't be sorry.

Wait, wait for it........

How many whiskies are you still savouring, thinking about two, three minutes after the last taste? As the tingle in my gums dies down, the chocolate is still developing. The conversation in the room is now an unwelcome distraction as I peer into my glass looking for the whisky angel. This is simply glorious and to think, I nearly didn't buy it because, when I tasted it in-store, I thought the attack just a little too aggressive. When the bottle has been open a while it gets a whole lot more friendly. It makes me want to live in Scotland on a rugged coastline, getting up in twilight to walk in my cape along craggy cliffs with a cruel sou'wester smacking my face.

This is sweet, sweet liqueur of peaches with a twist of lime to add zest as the smooth vanilla from the bourbon casks is slowly washed down with the briny tide. Ah, Scotland the brave. I love you.

Absolutely glorious! Smooth, delicious flavours which are fruity with peat and smoke in such balance that nothing wants toning down. All the best attributes of Islay without being too boisterous! I look forward to the next release!

Com-wait for it-Plex!

This is one of the most flavour packed drams i ever tasted. It keeps changing in the glass. First its smokey, then fruity, then it turns on you again. Maybe its too complex for me. Im more up for a Bruichladdich. But my peated favourite is gonna be the NC2 range 1993 Imperial. That is the my ultimate first choice. CM

I am generally a fan of the Peatier whisky's available. In particular the Ardberg 10year , Laphroaig and Lagavulin. This is not very heavily peaked however it is such a smooth whisky. This really surprised me when you read the whopping 55.9% strength on the side. This has to be one of the nicest whisky's I have had the pleasure of trying with an incredible depth to it. When I smell this it truly 'lifts' my shoulders. 10/10 from Me
