Boulard Calvados

Boulard Calvados is an emblematic brand rooted in the Normandy region of France, celebrated for producing one of the world's most acclaimed apple brandies. The Boulard family began its journey in the realm of Calvados production in the early 19th century. Over the years, the Boulard name has become synonymous with premium Calvados, preserving traditional methods while innovating to meet contemporary tastes.

Founded in 1825 by Pierre-Auguste Boulard, the family-owned company is currently in its fifth generation of Calvados producers. Their expansive orchards sprawl across the Pays d’Auge, a territory distinguished by its rich terroir, optimal for apple cultivation. The soil composition, climate, and traditional farming methods result in apples that have a distinct flavour profile, crucial for creating the unique taste of Boulard Calvados.

The production of Calvados at Boulard is a meticulous process that remains faithful to age-old traditions. Apples are harvested, fermented into cider, and then distilled. Boulard employs the traditional pot still method and a double distillation process.

After distillation, the spirit is aged in oak barrels. Boulard's cellars house a variety of barrels, from old ones imparting subtle flavours to newer ones offering stronger woody and vanilla notes. As the Calvados matures, it undergoes a transformation, developing depth, character, and a harmonious blend of flavours. This ageing process can range from a few years to several decades, depending on the expression.

Boulard offers a wide range of Calvados expressions. From the vibrant and youthful "Grand Solage" to the nuanced and complex V.S.O.P and the deep, introspective Hors d'Age, each bottle tells a story of time, terroir, and craftsmanship.

Today, Boulard Calvados enjoys global recognition and has a presence in over 80 countries. Its reputation as a luxury spirit has made it a favourite among connoisseurs, mixologists, and those who appreciate the finer things in life. As the brand moves forward, it carries with it the legacy of its forebears, a testament to the art of Calvados-making and the indomitable spirit of Normandy.
