A special single barrel release from the craft distillery that brought us the first ever Texan whisky. This release marks 5 years since Chip Tate founded Balcones (which Chip and the chaps built from scratch!) and, as ever, it's a first...
It's the first full-size barrel of bourbon Balcones have ever produced and the first single barrel bourbon release in the state's history. It's also North Central Texas' first ever artisan bourbon. Moreover, it's completely delicious and has already picked up a slew of medals including a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition!
Just 10 bottles will be available in the UK, exclusively from Master of Malt.
To celebrate this tremendous milestone there will be a total of 4 single barrel releases from Balcones over the coming months, of which this is the first.
Nose: Spicy rye and sugared sweetness give way to pecan, fragrant vanilla and a touch of geranium. A little water (not too much) reveals a fruitiness that was only hinted at before; ripe pear and dried apricot. Anise and clove too, beneath a core of caramel and pepper.
Palate: Big at 64.20% abv, but not at all 'spirity'. Treacle, oak and cracked pepper. A touch of caffè Americano.
Finish: A little tobacco leaf picks up where the coffee left off, with dark caramel, rye, maple syrup, pecan and Toffifee!
Overall: This is a quite exceptional straight bourbon. The perfect way to celebrate five years of Balcones, one of the most exciting distilleries in the world and real trailblazers of the US craft whisk(e)y movement.

Apologies for the panic! These bottles are actually not yet with us, we believe the raft they were placed on for their Atlantic crossing may have been blown off course or some such. - The Chaps at Master of Malt
