    Balcones True Blue Cask Strength

A cask strength edition of Balcones True Blue, produced in Waco, Texas, using blue corn. Certainly not something you see everyday - unless you work at the distillery, that is. We reckon this'll be bloomin' excellent - not to be missed!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

French toast dusted with cinnamon. Heavy corn influence, with some salted butter and cracked black pepper.

    Palate

Rich mouth-feel. Black coffee, juicy raisins and spicy cinnamon.

    Finish

Loads of honey, demerara sugar and cedar spice. A little hint of cardamom, too.

    Sumptuous, thick, and dark

I've had the privilege of a few TB CS bottlings, and this latest keeps true to glorious tradition. Salted peanuts, thick, ropy, molten caramel. Color is ruby red on top of bourbon brown, amazing on its own and speaks volumes about the wood. The nose holds a lifetime of (US) childhood pancake and waffle memories. just stunning frankly-- stops one in their tracks and makes one take stock. On the palate this is reinforced, but much more sweetness and spice. Crystallized syrup, candy, and a giant dollop of cinnamon and cardamom. A tad of licorice at the end, but not without generous butter. Wow. With some time and water (heretical, I know), more wood tannins on the nose, licorice and spice. Clean and delicious oak. The butttery notes are still there, but diminished and now perhaps more toasty than pancake-y, if that makes sense. Nuts and sugared/salted bread is ever present. Ginger, clear and sharp, with maple not far behind, and a clear nuttiness, but not as clearly pea-nutty. Still, thick and rich. Then on the finish, marzipan (frosted?). A crumbling and a lasting finish. A flavor-themed title might be 'Peanut butter pancakes' or some other, mouth-watering poetry.

    Liquid BBQ

Forget the Brimstone (which tasted more like liquidised BBQ) - this stuff smells of all the best bits of slightly charred burnt ends, served with apple BBQ sauce. Just epic stuff.

    Very good!

A very nice bourbon! Needs air to breathe. Touch of caramel, hints of vanilla, dry, lots of spices with a very long finish.
