Hudson Baby Bourbon Bottling Note

Hudson Baby Bourbon is the first legal pot-still whiskey to be produced in New York since prohibition!

In the days before prohibition farm distillers could be found throughout the state of New York and Tuthilltown are doing their bit to put New York back on the whiskey map with this classic bourbon, full of caramel and sweet vanilla notes, it is made from 100% New York corn.

Aged in tiny 2 gallon barrels, the spirit is 'sonically matured' with the help of bass speakers that agitate the cask and the liquid! Each bottle is then hand-filled, waxed and numbered, without the use of carbon or chill filtration.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Robust vanilla, new oak warmth, popcorn and a lingering whiff of sugared almond.

Palate: Marzipan and candied ginger, with a thick layer of caramel on top. A touch of rye spiciness develops.

Finish: Chocolate peanuts, buttered corn-on-the-cob and a light glaze of honey.

Hudson Baby Bourbon (35cl) Reviews

At least it looks nice on the shelf

Smells alright, quite buttery. Taste is strange - you can tell it's distilled from corn. For me it's hot/spicy in a bad way and doesn't really have any depth on the palate. I got a hint of vanilla but none of the gorgeous sounding notes in the description. Shame, I was sold on the pretty little bottle!

Worth a try--make up your own mind

I felt strong enough about this to register at this site. I have tasted and own numerous bourbons and this bourbon deserves a higher rating than many are giving. It is smooth with a chocolate finish (not certain how that is achieved). It mixes well in drinks or stand alone neat. Uncertain where the 1 to 2-star disdain is coming from (all this anti-NYC rhetoric is inane--I am from KY and this is a decent pour). Only sticking point is the price. Fifty+ dollars is a bit overpriced for this bourbon.

Not For Me!

For me this "bourbon" was absolutely awful. It had a terrible furniture polish forward not and was not palatable for me. I couldn't even mix it. And it's not like I have not tried a variety of whiskeys and bourbons (from Jim Beam to Blanton's and beyond). Hudson Baby Bourbon is simply a "no-go".

Way better than expected

Thanksgiving day my son-in-law brought this to the days activities. I will admit, I was skeptical. New York Bourbon? Really? Well, I’m glad he brought it. It has a great nose and is as smooth as silk. This seems to be a low rye Bourbon although the label is silent on the exact grain bill. Clear notes of oak and vanilla come to the forefront with a clean but all to short finish. I could drink this all day long and likely will.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Scotch drinkers would like this. Not a true bourbon taste or finish.

Lovely spicy vanilla. Strange to see so many bad reviews here. I wonder if there was a tainted batch or fake booze

Total trash

I bought this fine looking product with an expectation of decent drink-ability. However, it was total s***. Not to be confused with “the s***,” as in good. I dumped my glass down the drain, then the whole bottle. My cousin finished his glass. Though as he’s in the Army, and I the Air Force, I assume he was embracing the suck. I have not had anything this bad since I tried Monterey Rye; a f***’n gross (adjective: very obvious and unacceptable; blatant) offensive to the human palate. It’s like drinking the vomit of something that’s been eating whole grain muffins all day. F (you know what it means) YOU.

My favourite drink. Spent far too much on this. Lovely.

Not even worth one star.

Terrible. Never again.

Crowd pleaser!

Not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from on this - found it to be sweet, rich, smooth and well rounded. Lacks a bit of complexity being 100 percent corn but I can see it going down well at my next bbq!

I bought a bottle (70cl) of this when it was on sale thinking I'd got myself a bargain. Boy was I wrong! The initial nose isn't too bad with a hint of sweetness, corn and weirdly Play-Doh! Then on the palette it's just awful, briny and like fermented corn. It actually tastes like they've bottled the Hudson River itself, and next to a sewage pipe. I'm open to most bourbons and have had some bad ones, but this one is definitely the worst. I even invited a few friends around for a second opinion and theirs was worse than mine. I'm not even sure this should carry the mantle of 'Bourbon' as it's made in New York. Anyway not for me, maybe back to the sewer from where it came.

Hudson Bay - stay away!

Its up there with Cooper's Craft and Clyde May's as the worst bourbon out there. Save your money

24th January 2019

The smell isn't too bad and the initial taste is OK but the after burn is terrible. Am going to struggle to finish this dram!

Gut rot in a glass

Fiery in a bad way- could barely finish the glass - avoid

7th December 2018

Not bad

Noticeable oakiness, big corn flavour and a nice bit of spice which was pleasant.
Had been dying to try it but not blown away which was disappointing.

Not fit for man or beast

They served it at a Blues Festival. It’s what I grew up known as rot-gut whisky. Thank God they used massive amounts of ice to lesson the harm it will due to your internal organs.

Moonshine Corn liquor not bourbon.

I tried this at a restaurant and was immediately dissapointed. Peaty and tasted more like a scotch/whiskey. Yuck. Was completely dissapointed when they charged $20 for the single pour

The One

Outstanding, I always come back to this One.

Me Either

I'm not a super seasoned bourbon sipper, but I was excited to try this due to the high corn content. I guess I don't have the developed nose and taste buds for this. I didn't detect vanilla, oak, popcorn or any of that. To me the smell and taste are completely overpowered by fermented corn (I guess because that is what it is). Wish I could have returned this.

Got it in the excellent Advent Calendar. Smells a bit nutty, not like any bourbon I've tried before. A smooth drink, if that's what you like. I prefer Blanton's, or Michter's (also in the calendar) for the same kind of money.

31st December 2017

Will buy another bottle.

Like this. Very smooth, quite sharp but no burn which for me is a good thing. Received as part of the tasting set. Definitely on the short list to buy more.

29th December 2017

Not for me...

I know everyone has different ideas of what is good and to some this Bourbon is probably ok. My honest opinion after giving it a serious try is that it is not for me. In fact it is probably the worst bourbon I have had in quite some time. Total waste of 57.00, I wish I could return it for pretty much anything. It taste to me like a middle of the road homemade corn whisky that just came from the woods. I did taste a hint of vanilla which was all I found that was acceptable. Again, to each his own but it was just not for me. Sorry for the negative review.

28th November 2017

will keep buying

its my favorite of many tried

Rich sweet char , hot and young

Great rich colour , I like the idea that they play dubstep to the casks to vibrate them to improve maturation . Personally I would play the stranglers , JJ Burnel on bass would do the job . I find the flavour good with some sweetness from the corn , good cask char coming through . Yes it's got some warmth to it because it's young but all in all , it's pricey but it's real hand crafted stuff.

One step shy of gross. It's shtick is "young" and 100% corn. Well it taste of it. Rough, hot, unrefined. At this price point there's so much better.

26th February 2017

This bourbon surprised me with it's rich flavours
Warm mouthfeel
And spice on the finish
Would definitely like more!

Session dram

color: deep ruby amber
nose: sharp grain, some oak
palate: very gentle, sweet delivery. Oily texture. A hint of mint and licorice.
finish: clean
This is 100% corn whisky. There is no rye bite that is typical in a Kentucky bourbon. This is an easy drinking "session dram". I wish they put it in full bottles.
