Looking for a wheated bourbon? William Larue Weller is one of the big names you want to keep your eye out for. Now owned by Buffalo Trace, it's been a staple of wonderfully mellow wheated bourbon goodness for decades upon decades. Presented at 45% ABV, the William Larue Weller Special Reserve is great stuff - a good balance of vanilla, savoury nuts, caramel and a small touch of spice on the finish.
Gentle waves of floral vanilla, honeysuckle, and creamy caramel backed by hints of fresh peach and mellow oaken spice.
Silky soft honey and apricots with vanilla cream balance gentle cinnamon warmth. Buttery pastries and just a smidge of oak char join in time.
Supple wheat, butterscotch, vanilla shortbread, honeyed cereal, and a distant pinch of nutmeg.
I'm not a connoisseur per se but I do enjoy a smooth, sweet bourbon; this fits the bill and comes at an affordable price. It's enjoyable neat or on the rocks.
Real big fan of wheat, it gives a really different note on the nose. Heavily carameled nuts with vanilla, but the wheat makes everything very light and fragrant. On the taste I get an almost peppermint feel which must be from the wheat that carries the classic bourbon profile. Love it.
Best value for money out there!
Bubblegum, toffee, vanillaroma. It exploded on my tastebuds, and made me salivate. A touch too sweet and cloying though upon repeated tastes.
