GoT A Song of Fire Bottling Note

A Song of Fire is one of a pair of blended Scotch whiskies from Johnnie Walker, alongside its sibling expression A Song of Ice. Both were inspired by the hugely popular Game of Thrones TV show based off of George R.R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire. This particular expression takes further inspiration from the House Targaryen, which had something of an affinity for dragons, like the one you can see on the label. As such, this expression offers up a subtly smoky flavour profile, imparted by the peaty Caol Ila malts at its core.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Orange peels and dried fruit, contrasted by savoury, woody smoke wafts.

Palate: Somewhat coastal, with salinity growing underneath runny toffee and biscuit dough notes. Toasty spices also pop up - think nutmeg and five-spice.

Finish: A final hint of soft smoke, plus some Honey-Nut Cheerios sweetness.

Johnnie Walker A Song Of Fire Reviews

Quite a juicy blend

I know, we're rather malt drinkers and it just a JW brand mass production blend. Still it is a very nice companion for a cold summer. Nose is really cosy and welcoming, on a warm side, with nice interplay of fruit notes (with some Sicily orange jam shining through), subtle smoke and 'white wineish honey'. Taste: in a sincere way it copies the nose with great juicy oranges, wood sweetness and smoke intruguingly popping in and out. Finish: definietly on a juicy, moreish side, leaving You with a rich mouthfeel, with some mineral salinity going on too. I know-it should be 43% or 46% (it has only 40,8%), with more malt content. Commenting on that I would say it is much older than 3yo, I think 5-8yo whiskies are in it as it does not have any young blends' burn sensations. As far as the price tag it is a pleasant blend which I could recommend to all whisky fans for this cold summer, a one You could drink neat. With more malt and alc. content it would be a belter:)))
