Johnnie Walker Gold Label

Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is a multi-award-winning blend (lots of gold medals, appropriately) created by master blender Jim Beveridge to celebrate nearly 200 years of the art of blending. The Gold Label Reserve was relaunched in 2012 as a replacement for the popular Gold Label 18 and is made from whiskies across Speyside, Islay, the Highlands, and Lowlands.

It’s built around a core of single malt whisky from Clynelish, but also features spirit from the likes of Cardhu, Blair Athol, and grain whisky from Cameronbridge, all chosen for their sweet, honeyed qualities. It’s delicious neat but also mixes well, like in serves such as the bespoke Gold & Apple created especially for this blend (recipe below). Although we think for the best effect, you should drink it while singing Spandau Ballet’s classic ‘Gold’. That’s what we do.

Gold & Apple cocktail recipe

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Honey and heather with thick caramel notes and a subtle nutmeg spice. Dried meadow flowers and a hint of fresh banana.

Palate Smooth and succulent with a honeyed sweetness that's typical of Johnnie Walker. There's more to this though, the floral elements are quite prominent and there's a spiced sweet vanilla note too.

Finish Long, sweet and toffee-like.

Overall A typically easy drinking blend from Johnnie Walker, this will not disappoint fans of the style.

Reviews for Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve
Underated.
I suspect some of the previous reviewers are knocking this, on principle, because it is a blended whisky without an age statement. However, I find it absolutely delicious, with a finish that just goes on and on. Well worth the money.

Harsh
This whisky is a bit of an oddball for me, let it sit in mouth for a second it tastes quite mellow and vanilla flavours come through. Leave it any longer and you get a very nasty almost chemical burn sensation. A disappointing blend that was supposed to be better than the double black.

Husband loves it!
My husband is a whisky lover and says it’s one of the best blends he’s tasted in a long time!
Just seen the previous review. Maybe that’s why he likes it. He’s a fan of peated whisky!

My favourite whisky so far.
Smooth, tasty and with a hint of peated smoke. Delicious

Tastes very harsh.
I agree with other reviews which say this is harsh, I get a strong alcohol burn and very little taste, a little vanilla sweetness, very slight spice and a short finish.
It tastes like a very young blended whisky, not a premium blend.
This is too expensive for what it is.
I think Red Label tastes better than this.

With green you can buy gold
This came early on in my scotch advent calendar. We are now on the 15th and this one is dead last place. The green was today’s dram and much more pleasant. I find the gold is too try hard, therefore failing all the important aspects of its price range.

Disappointing.
I don't think much of this. There isn't much going on, aroma wise or taste wise. After the burn there is a little subdued flavour which quickly dissipates. It would be ok for mixing but I think it is overpriced. I like the green label, or even the double black ahead of this. Quite disappointed. Even if it were half the price there are other blended whiskies I'd buy before this.

Nothing Special
... I bought the Green Label first and enjoyed it that much that I looked at others. On reading about the Gold it sounded like my kind of whisky. I was pretty disappointed .. its smooth but lacks character... not bad by any means .. but there is better out there for the price .. I would choose a Macallan over this .. will definitely re-visit the Green Label though ..

Very overpirced
It's just disappointing. Strong alcohol taste for a low abv whisky and very harsh.

I'm a big JW fan and their core range are pretty solid. This is more like one of their marketing gimmick ranges.

You can get much better blends for less.
