Evan Williams 1783 Bottling Note

A superb Kentucky straight bourbon from Evan Williams, produced in small batches. The 1783 expression is named after the year that Evan Williams set up his distillery on the banks of the Ohio River.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Brown sugar and maple syrup, backed up by hints of dried apricot and raisin.

Palate: Continued syrup-y sweetness as it opens up, with cinnamon and black pepper warmth building.

Finish: Light hints of corn and malt stick around.

Evan Williams 1783 Reviews

Don't be fooled by their website. It's not 90 proof.

Their website says it's 90 proof. It's 86. Fail.

Nice small batch version of Evan Williams bourbon

Lighter and more complex than EV black. Nice variety of flavors-vanilla toffee with some baking spice and pepper. Current price in Indiana is $13.99, same as the black label, and a real deal.

A real Pleaser

More positive flavor than the black label, and suppression of slightly negative flavors that come out in the BIB version, 1783 is my favorite in this price range from HH. It appears to be a more select product. One of only 4 Bourbons I drink neat under $20.

Excellent value, helps kill the COVID.

I’ve been drinking a lot of bourbon lately to warn off the Covid (whiskey has a high concentration of ellagic acid in it, which is a strong antiviral agent.) A buddy of mine tipped me off to 1783, and it is by far the best bourbon you can get for your money. I will be buying this henceforth on the regular.

Great bourbon at great price.

Excellent! My “every day” bourbon.
Just bought EW White and it may replace 1893.

Grat deal

One of my favorites and affordable try it

Enjoyable par (almost) none

This bourbon is my go-to for my home bar. I've never done it but I believe that in a blind taste test for enjoyability, it would regularly dominate other bourbons that sport a pocketbook-depleting price tag. Some bourbons' alcohol is front and center, and while 1783's is certainly a feature, it is more balanced than other of my favorites. I LOVE it.

You won't find a better bourbon for the price.

1763 is smooth and sweet. It tastes like a $40 bourbon, but it typically retails under $20. This is sippin' bourbon for sure, and you won't find anything better within the price range.

If you're looking for something leaning more towards the sour, or a bit harsher rather, this isn't it. It's distinctly sweet with a relative smoothness across the palate, which lingers. I'd imagine it's very corn heavy, but it doesn't taste cheap as I've said, this tastes like a premium product full and through.

It great!!!!!!!

It's great with ginger ale and you can't beat the price and by far better than Jack Daniels, sipping on some right now.

1783 is a Bargain

This is one of my favorites, and a bargain to boot. It's a little rougher than those premium bourbons that retail at $50+/750mL, so I usually sip it on the rocks. Comparable to Jack Daniels at half the price. No complaints.

Marketing will sell you shit, enjoy what you drink

I prefer the White label to 1783, that said, it is still an amazing whiskey for the money. Evan Williams has an uncanny knack for making affordable whiskeys that embarrass other brands that twice cost twice as much.

Excellent choice, beats most of the big boys.

I found this a few years ago, and when I don't have a bottle on hand it's a bummer. Not great for the price, well it is, but it's just GREAT!

15th April 2019

Excellent for the money

It sips fairly well, better used in a mixed drink. I mix it with 7up and/or ginger ale

I great buy for the price.

This is a smooth and tasty KENTUCKY bourbon whiskey. I love sipping on it with a big glass of water or cola on the side. Be careful, it can go down too fast. It's natural vanilla and caramel flavor comes through nicely.

Solid Buy!

Nice back drop story... sometimes the story helps support the bourbon. All in the experience!

Great everyday bourbon

This is great specially for the price. I drink this all the time. Try it.

12th December 2018

Flavor far exceeds the low price.

Don't let the low price scare you away from this fine, full bodied bourbon. I pay $16 locally so this price is a little inflated. I picked this one out of a blind taste test with Blanton's and Rare Breed. It is now my daily drinker. Try it, you'll like it.

Fantastic bourbon for the price

I somehow found this for $12.99...which is crazy. I added a splash of water to open it up. Fantastic!! I'm a big fan of Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Corner Creek, etc, but my every day pour is cheap green-label Evan Williams. 1783 is on par with yellow label Four Roses. Really, really good for the price.

11th October 2018

Great bourbon at a very fair price.

I did a blind taste comparison of 1783 with Blanton's and Russell's Reserve. I picked the 1783 for the best taste and smoothest. It is also the lowest in price. That is now my regular drink.

8th October 2018

Tasty and delicious.

So tasty and smooth. It is slightly sweet with a hint of vanilla. Always have a nice glass of water on the side to sip along with it. Aged nicely. Delicious!

Mikey likey

I really enjoy the EW family of bourbons. I tried the 1783 for the first time last night . ..It was really good . Not as aggressive as the EW BIB, but darn tasty. Thank you Heaven Hill!!!

1st July 2018

Will buy it again

My go to bourbons are Woodford,Knobcreek and Four Roses but a friend suggested I give it a try. 1783 is a very good every day pour for the price

23rd June 2018

Easily worth the price!

Rather smooth esp. if you let it set after poring for a few min. Nice flavor I cut mine w/water 50/50 and drink it on ice.

4th June 2018

Excellent bargain

Tastes the same as woodford in my opinion. Really smooth and is 16.99 here at the store.

19th April 2018

great drink-can afford all but this is it-

Bourbon drinker 60 years-can afford all-1783 is my choice-bourbon needs to be 86-90 proof-under no taste-over masks any flavor-Tried them all blind and 1783 is it- one ice cube to open the flavor-let sit for five minutes-try a dark chocolate with it !!!

11th February 2018

Great - smooth.

The best - great price also!

Nice hint of vanilla and very smooth. One of my favorites.

14th December 2017

As good as Jim Beam Black.

Best for the buck. As good as Jim Beam Black but much cheaper.

23rd September 2017

George Washington's best

It's good

5th September 2017

give it a shot

pennsylvania resident reporting! this could be BETTER...but, don't hate on it up and let it sit a bit...the signature EW peanut note is there initially but's not's not 'stellar' but it's a bargain for what it is. i got mine on sale for $14.99

1st August 2017

A very flavorful and completely enjoyable, Bourbon.

You can enjoy it sipping or use it for a mixer. There are none better for a Bourbon and Coke. Altogether a very enjoyable drink.

3rd November 2016

Boy this was good drinking bourbon and you cannot beat the price, smooth dry spicy vanilla.

13th October 2016

Who knew?

I bought this based on the flavour profile and price mark and for a spicy, dry bourbon with depth - at this price mark - Evan Williams 1783 is ridiculously hard to beat, if not impossible at this present time. Completely unassuming but punches well above it's weight. You're not paying for packaging or branding, just for very good quality drinking. Delicious neat and a cut above in cocktails, if you're looking for a classy everyday go-to or a cocktail bourbon than that won't break the bank, look no further.

4th April 2016

Good quality

Picked this up on a whim recently. I've been tying to explore some single barrel and small batch bourbons that won't break the bank. I am a regular drinking of the Evan Williams BIB and was pleasantly surprised with this selection. It has nice aromatics with a nice amount of spice and oak and isn't very sweet. There is something in the flavor profile that I just can't place that is slightly off putting to me but it is still a good drink. I enjoy it with a splash of water or just one ice cube.

30th January 2016

One of the best of Heaven Hill

My new favorite cheap but above average bourbon whiskey. It's not hard to drink has a great flavor of toasted caramel and vanilla with hints of leather. Very good drinking whiskey that mixes well and is good straight up neat.
