Phillips Lovage Bottling Note

An alcoholic cordial from Phillips of Bristol, who originally produced and marketed their cordials as medication. This one is made with lovage, a plant that is said to help with digestion. We assume it was also made with love and care as well as lovage.

No better drink.

My wife and myself totally agree that Brandy and Lovage is the perfect beverage and so does my mother-in-law who is now 85 years old, but a problem has arisen in obtaining Lovage. We live in Havant and our local supermarkets being Waitrose and Tesco no longer stock Lovage. The only place we can now purchase Lovage is Sainsburys at Farlington a 15minute bus ride away. Yes there is an Off Licence about a mile from our home but I do object to paying an extra £1.35 per bottle. Is there any reason Waitrose and Tesco have withdrawn the sale of Lovage? I did manage to get though to a young lady at Tesco to enquire but she had never heard of Lovage and said she would look into my enquire and get back to me but that was over a month ago. Perhaps she is still trying to find out what lovage is!!!!

Higher distribution equals higher profits!!

I first came across Lovage as a rum mixer some 40 years ago. Since then I have moved several times and, outside the West Country it is very difficult to find. I've ended up in Deal on the East Kent Coast and have failed to locate a stockist. Do you have any known stockist between Folkestone and Ramsgate? Judging from other reviews I am not alone in suffering from poor availability.

Roll on christmas.

Been entertaining for the last 53 years, and always had a flask of Brandy and Lovage with me, Was introduced to this drink whilst working in Cornwall, and never had a hangover even after the show and drinking well befor bedtime. Could never get Lovage north of Birmingham years ago, hence the hip flask.
Near 80 now and still partaking.

Lovage

I think it's delightful with Brandy as a nightcap, but I cannot seem to find any shop which sells it.

Great with Brandy-Makes cheaper Brandies so much smoother.

I try to keep a few extra in stock, but living midway between Glos.& Bristol it's hard to find a local stockist,Tesco at Thornbury have stopped selling it and most other large supermarkets have never heard of it! On trips to Surrey I stop at Junct.12 of the M4 where a large Sainsbury's keeps a good stock, obviously the good people of Reading love Lovage. They charge £8 a bottle, sadly mail oder can cost £11 plus with p&p.

My favourite tipple

I was introduced to this on a freezing cold Valentine's weekend in the White Peak when broken hearted back in 1989. Brandy and Lovage can save you from anything. I have been a convert ever since. It warms you when nothing else will.

Lovage

What a find! Absolutely my cup of tea. I can't drink high alcohol drinks, so this is just perfect. Must try it with brandy as others have said.

The Best.

Due to a bad stomach and the fact that even since I was a kid I have always produce lots of stomach acid. Therefore I have never really been able to drink spirits. If I did I would rip the lining of my stomach and cause bleeding. So I stayed away from them.
Then one day I discovered this wonderful drink. You mix 2 parts Lovage to 1 part Brandy. You get the strength of the Brandy but you don't get the burn. And you get a nice warm feeling & it sits just nice in your stomach.
I've been a biker for years & camping with my kids, everyone knows me or remembers me by my lovage & Brandy. This is my best drink ever, well this and Hobgobblin beer.

Unique Cordial. Loves to play on the ice and can also take the heat on a cold winters evening. Interesting flavor with a hint of celery.

Mr Frank McGee.

Unable to drink spirits due to a high acid content I found that this is really good with Brandy. It tastes wonderful, you still taste the Brandy but it takes away the sting. Best stuff ever.
