Diplomático Vintage 2002 Bottling Note

Single vintage rum from Diplomático? Delicious! This particular bottling of fantastic Venezuelan rum was distilled in 2002 and given a finishing period in Spanish Sherry casks before being bottled at 43% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fruity coffee, raspberry jam and orange oil. A touch of rye, rose and balsa wood.

Palate: Caramel and pineapple. Slightly meaty at points, but remains sweet. Cinnamon and black liquorice.

Finish: Drying oak, pine resin, sloe berries and fried banana.

Decent rum

Nice bottle with Good rum inside... I bought two bottles and don't regret the purchase... Worth a try!
Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is good (like an aperitif rum). The vintage 2002 dials down the sweetness and kicks up the abv (and likely the over-all age of the rum) a bit which makes for a more enjoyable sipper in my opinion. Not the best I've had at this price point nor is it the best at $50USD but it is still good and you can use the bottle as a decanter when you finish it... Bonus!

A rum?

This is a typical Hispanic "super-premium rum": laden with sugar, mouthfeel softened with glycerine most likely and yes, the sherry is evident - most likely the casks contained a fair bit of the wine when the neutral spirit was added. It's a shame products like these are sold as excellent rums when with vodka and a few bottles of PX sherry, essences meant for baking and cane sugar syrup one can make such a product for a fraction of the price.

The nicest drink yet

This is a lovely rum. Not a drink you have to educate yourself about, just very nice to drink
