Mead, one of the oldest alcoholic drinks in history, has seen quite the resurgence recently (find out more about that over on our blog)! Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead, produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, through the process of fermenting honey. A fun mead fact: traditionally, after a wedding the bride and groom were given enough mead to last then one month, which is where the term ‘honeymoon’ came from!
Smooth and warming with a certain dryness, prominent honey and caramel flavours without being overly sweet, along with light floral notes.

This stuff is how it should be done. Crucially, this is not a Honey Wine (regular wine flavoured with honey), but an honest to goodness 'water, honey, yeast, time' Mead. It's definitely sweeter than any wine, but not as sickly sweet as one might expect. Definitely worth trying if you're curious about this most ancient of drinks (also makes a cracking Wedding present, given the origins of the term Honeymoon....) And yes, second favourite. My true favourite is dashed hard to come by though!
Found this originally in Canada on the day of my wedding. I bought six bottles to toast the ceremony with. Thanks to Master of Malt I can now remember that day well having my senses onslaught with its sweet goodness and rich notes. It's in my top three favourite meads of all time.

A beautifully rich, bitter sweet drink, I absolutely adore this with ice.
My husband loved it as an Xmas gift so I'm treating him to some more for his birthday!
