Highland Wineries

Mead, one of the oldest alcoholic drinks in history, has seen quite the resurgence recently (find out more about that over on our blog)! Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead, produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, through the process of fermenting honey. A fun mead fact: traditionally, after a wedding the bride and groom were given enough mead to last then one month, which is where the term ‘honeymoon’ came from!
Smooth and warming with a certain dryness, prominent honey and caramel flavours without being overly sweet, along with light floral notes.

That is all.
A little disappointed by this. I bought it because I had never tried mead before but it's far too sweet for me and also has an odd sharpness that I wasn't expecting. It has grown on me since my first sip and I'm sure I'll finish the bottle, but on the whole, it's just not my cup of tea.
This taste very good, and will go good for dinner.
As meads go, this is rich, sweet, and suitably heady. However, there were also strong notes of hibiscus/flowers and anise/licorice, both of which I highly dislike. For the person that enjoy these, good; for those like me who do not, undrinkable.
Have wanted to try Mead for a long time, found some of this in an LCBO in Ontario Canada. Absolutely loved it. A very slight burn and warmth in the tummy but nice and sweet on the tongue
