The production of jenever near Deinze by the Filliers family dates back to the 19th century. This 'old' jenever has been aged for 5 years in American oak barrels but the 'old' refers to the older style production method, producing a far more flavourful spirit.
Nose: Sweet latte and nutmeg with a dusting of bitter cocoa. Allspice.
Palate: Plenty of wood spice, anise, a little treacle, orange blossom, tomato vine.
Finish: Sweet, dry toastiness.
Overall: Complex and spicy. A fantastic jenever.

Think what would happen if you took a delicious, delicious bourbon and used it as the base for a gin. This. This is what would happen. That and 'happiness'.

I bought a bottle of Filliers Oude Granjenever from the duty free in Brussels airport and am very pleased that I did. It is a smooth, sweet spirit and I can't recommend it highly enough.
