Using both malt barley and selected, quality grains, Belgian distillers Filliers created the first ever double still Belgian whisky, using both pot and column stills.
This is the first release of their 12 year old, Amontillado finish whisky, part of their limited edition sherry finishes range.
Toffee and caramel, spicy rye and toasted oak.
Sweet with nutmeg as well as darker, more exotic spices, herbs and plenty of thick caramel.
Peppery oak.
An interesting grain whisky from Belgium, comparable to Filliers' aged jenevers but reminiscent of some American whiskeys too.
Agree with the above review - bananas are really prevalent, but there's a good deal of rye spice and woodchip in here too. Lovely stuff.
The nose reveals rye as the main ingredient, but it is a lot less sweet on the nose than the oloroso matured version. Some banana chips, gingerbread, oranges and even a hint of white chocolate. Drying, though. The palate is somewhat creamy, fruity and spicy. Banana again. Less dry than expected. Typical spices such as nutmeg, ginger and a light pepper. Pleasant. In the rather long finish, a slight bitterness emerges. This is very nice, to be honest. Much better than the 12 Year Old Oloroso Finish. - Mark Dermul, Toshan Man.
