Label 5 is owned by La Martiniquaise, owners of Glen Moray distillery. Frenchman Jean Cayard established La Martiniquaise in 1934, though he didn’t turn his head to Scotch whisky until 1969, which is when he launched the Label 5 blend.
It was in 2004 that La Martiniquaise invested in its own first maturation, blending and bottling facility in Edinburgh, heading towards becoming in control of production and self-sufficient. Four years after, in 2008, La Martiniquaise purchased the Glen Moray distillery from The Glenmorangie Company, which was a major component in the Label 5 blend. It was only one year later the brand entered the world’s top 10 best-selling Scotch whiskies.
