Nerello Mascalese has in recent years become recognised as one of the finest grapes in Italy. It's originally from the slopes of Mount Etna in Eastern Sicily but it's now planted more widely around the island - this example comes from on the hills around Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia in southwestern Sicily. It's a fresh, supple red which would be particularly nice with seared tuna.
Bright red cherry fruit with spicy floral notes plus richer notes of coffee and chocolate.
