For decades now, Meerlust Rubicon, a Bordeaux-style blend of cabernet, merlot and other varieties has been one of South Africa's finest wines. It's a powerfully built red that will last for years, decades even, so if you're going to open now, decant a good four hours before serving with some big, meaty food like rib of beef.
Rich nose with blackcurrants, cedar, violets, and tobacco. On the palate it's fresh, with ripe juicy dark fruit, and sturdy tannins. Very long finish.
