Top of the range gran reserva from one of the best producer in the region, Rioja doesn't really come better than this. Gran Reserva 904 is so named because it was first launched in 1904 but it was abbreviated because having a year on the label might be confusing. This is only made in the best years from a tempranillo-dominated blend of grapes. It spends around 4.5 years in oak and then five years in bottle before being released. This is absolutely ready to drink, especially with roast lamb, but will keep and improve for decades.
Richly spicy nose with tobacco, baking spices, cloves and fresh strawberry fruit. Vibrant fresh red fruit on the palate with soft tannins and then layers of coconut, vanilla and tobacco. Very very long.
