Here's an unusual wine made by a maverick producer Gian Luca Colombo. It comes from Piedmont, home of Barolo and Barbaresco, but it's a blend of three classic Piedmontese grapes nebbiolo, dolcetto and barbera with some pinot noir. It's aged in old Austrian oak casks to preserve fresh fruit aromas. Best of all, this comes in a 1 litre bottle, so there's more wine to go around. Plonk this on the table at lunchtime, and you're going to be very popular.
Red cherries, rose petals and aromatic spices on the nose. Medium to light body, crunchy fruit, with a little slatey tannins. Juicy and fun.
