Domaine de la Charbonnière Mourre des Perdrix Châteauneuf du Pape 2019

This Domaine has been in the hands of the Maret family since 1912. It's currently run by Michel Maret with help from his two daughters Véronique and Caroline. This particular cuvee is made from 70% grenache with the rest syrah and mourvèdre. It's mainly aged in a giant foudre which softens the wine without adding oaky notes, though a 10% portion is aged in new oak barriques. It's a big bold wine with masses of red fruit and aromatic herbal notes. Good to drink now with hearty food, this will age and improve for a decade at the least. Oh and the name means something like 'death of the partridges', perhaps a serving suggestion?

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Berry fruits like blackberries and raspberries with lots of spice, roasted nuts and pungent rosemary notes. It's a powerful wine but accessible now with nice ripe tannins.
