A bumper bottle of Starward Tawny, filled with 700ml of the marvellous Australian single malt. Tawny spends its entire maturation in fortified wine octaves, imparting generous helpings of roasted, candied nuts, poached stone fruits, and festive spice.
Banana bread and dried peels, with peanut butter and raisin.
Rather Christmassy, with spiced cooked plum, more dried fruit and citrus, a good helping of malt and grape sweetness.
A dusting of brown sugar and oily nuts on a dry, spicy finish.
I bought this for my husband a couple of Christmases ago. We’re both malt fans, especially Scots - this is something a little off the beaten track. It is a really wonderful whiskey. Fruity, vanilla and sherry on the nose - very pleasant. This converts into a robust but fruity spicy length in the mouth and and aromatic finish. Extremely drinkable. We finished the bottle way too quickly and I just bought another for this Christmas.
