A very special, dramatic-looking edition of Smokehead single malt featuring a debossed "Smokehead Skull". Hugely peaty and very well-packaged!
Smoke! Lapsang souchong. Cool wood smoke. Thick and full.
Big, puckering peat. Smoky, fruity sweetness, touch of sherry, sultana. Herbal.
Herbal, tangy fruits and more peat smoke!
Pure hapiness in a bottle
Definitely has more than a passing resemblance to Ardbeg if a bit green and slightly astringent. its the dry Smoky peat that gives it away, its not tangy peat like a laphroaig. Anyhow, given the cost and the 43% this is nice if a bit shallow. There isn't as much depth or dimension to the nose as an Ardbeg. really like the palate this is where the sherry and malty wood really comes to the fore. alas the finish is just too short but for this much money i have no complaints definitely would drink again
brought it on the ferry home from France ...I thought I would try something different for a change, looks great in the tin but once you open the bottle it smells like cheap booze and tastes worse ... it also leaves a bad after taste in your mouth that feels like you have just been to the dentist. The back of my tongue is numb as I am typing.. very disappointed :( looks like it going to be an expensive ornament !!
My wife bought me this and a Bowmore Small Batch for our anniversary. This bottle surprised me; I'm very familiar with Islays and have about a dozen of the traditional favorites, including three Ardbegs, three Laphroaigs and two Lagavulins. But I'd never seen or tasted this before. I was hesitant about it. The cylinder looks cool, but I didn't know what to expect. My wife was excited for me to try it. So I just did. I'm glad she bought it. I am very surprised by how much I like this whisky. Nosing it brings up strong, fruity scents beneath the iodine and peat, and that sweetness is the first thing you taste when you take a sip. I taste grapes and raisins and over-ripe fruit; it's unexpected and pleasing. Then The Rock gives way to a leathery, peppery spiciness and some smoke. The taste drops out altogether on the swallow, which is, I think, why some people don't like this whisky. I think it's interesting. The bulk of the peat and smoke comes at the very end, and when it does, it lingers in your throat and gullet. I know they don't say which distillery this comes from, but I think fans of peaty, smoky Islays will agree that this has to be from Ardbeg. A few drops of water didn't change the taste profile for me much. My palate may be too undeveloped. I'll probably stick with a few drops of water, though. I like it a lot. I'm going to have to pick up a couple spares while they're available, because it's a fun, somewhat riotous whisky to have in my collection -- especially for the price.
God kryddig samt rökig smak, kan uppfattas som något spritig. Fantastiskt god att lukta på. 370kr på Ålandsbåten så prisvärd!
