    Single Malt

    Smokehead (43%)

Smokehead is a superb, cult single malt from Ian MacLeod. Just a massive, thick peat smoke rich dram. Plenty of great south Islay character.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Smoke! Lapsang souchong. Cool wood smoke. Thick and full.

    Palate

Big, puckering peat. Smoky, fruity sweetness, touch of sherry, sultana. Herbal.

    Finish

Herbal, tangy fruits and more peat smoke!

    Odd taste profile

Not a fan I'm afraid. Given a bottle as a Christmas present. I'm usually a big Islay/peaty whisky fan, but this had a strange lingering sourness to it that I couldn't get passed and became quite sickly.

    Bad

This is a truly bad whisky. Thin, artifical smoke taste, no depth or complexity without it. Like Vat 69 with liquid smoke added.

    Powerful smack to the senses,

This was only my second foray into peated Islay whiskey (Laphroaig SELECT was my first). I found this was really flavoursome. Not for all folk but I liked the in your face flavours and smells. It is also surprisingly smooth, I felt no real burn on the way down. I would highly recommend a try.

Smokey, and more. An excellent dram.

Does exactly what it says on the tin! Intensely, beautifully smokey, but surprisingly balanced and well-rounded as well once you delve beyond the smoke. Adding a drop of water tones down the initial impact and releases gentler, more subtle notes.

    Amazing

Smoke, smoke and more smoke. I spillt a bit on my fingers and they smelled like my wood fire when I light it! Peat for sure, as well as herbs like in a kitchen in a castle museum when they show you how people used to live etc. I added a little bit of spring water to it which subdued the smoke and peat and allowed the sweeter elements through for me, especially when I held it over my tongue, as I could have mistaken it for a mouthful of honey! And not just honey from a jar, but exactly like when honey is being extracted from the bees wax - my father keeps some honey bees and I've had the privilege to know that smell and taste since I was a child. Basically this whisky reminds me of countryside living with warm fires, warming foods and the days gone by
