A very smooth blended Scotch with a distinct honey flavour. In 1997 it won the International Spirits Challenge.
Delicious. Almost sweet Preferred it with a dash of water which really opened out the flavours
Each to there own, I have tried many malts and very many blended and this is by far the best blended I have tried. It even beats J. Walker's black label and Chivas Regal both of which cost many £ more. It rates equal to the cheaper malts, Glen Grant Major's Reserve and Glen Moray. But as I say this is just my opinion and taste.
I came across Scottish Leader while in a supermarket and not having heard about it or seen it before thought I would give it a go. Big surprise... it punches well above its weight and is indeed, as it says on the bottle, smooth and slightly sweetish . It lacks some of the complexity that I associate with west coast whiskeys but is also free of the rough edges of some other entry level blends. A very smooth dram and a cracker at this price point.
Recently I chanced into a local independent outlet looking for a good Single Malt (my favorite) and noticed this attractive hexagonal bottle on the shelf. On inspection I noticed it was a "Blended" Scotch...arrgh. It was priced at A$80 and stated it is aged over 15 years so I thought - what the heck - I,ll give it a go. It is the best whisky that has graced my lips - bar none!
Normally, a die-hard "Single Malt"Scotch drinker... This particular Whisky is ABSOLUTELY the better for the ageing process. Not quite the full body of a Single Malt (Due to the other grains) it is an excellent Blended Scotch. Very smooth and drinkable....Congratulations to the distillers!
