Douglas Laing
Scotland
Douglas Laing's Rock Island blended malt gets the sherried treatment and a generous maturation in this limited edition 14 year old expression. The blended Scotch whisky is built around single malts distilled on the isles of Orkney, Jura, Arran, and Islay.
Sea spray and coastal peat, with some dried red fruits.
Sweet smoked meats, salted caramel, with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Lingering smoke and raisin sweetness.
A great, impactful malt. Really impressed by this one. Tasting notes of salted caramel with peated barley, warm earth and charred oak. Great!
A robust maritime blended malt and no mistake, the seashore saltiness hits from the first smell. There's a little hint of peat on the nose, but not overpowering, and a deep dried fruit sensation - raisins and a bit of red berry. A massive tingler in the mouth, has that fizzy sherbet like sensation, but not hot or too spicy. The red fruit is there along with a savoury umami smokiness. There's also a good dose of sweetness, maple syrup like. The finish is amazingly long and warming.
Delighted to be the first person to review this delightful dram. I was blown away by the quality and finish. So full of oceanic, salted caramel charm. Great John strength and impressive natural colour and no chill filtration. I’ll be back for more!
