    Reference Series I.2

The Reference Series is a fantastic way to consider some of the processes behind the many delicious and fascinating whiskies that are out there. I.2 sees the introduction of 10% heavily peated single malt from Islay - other than that, the whisky has the exact same make up as Reference Series I, your 'control' whisky in this case.

How much influence would 10% peated whisky have on Reference Series I, already made up of a core of youthful, clean blended malt top dressed with a pair of incredible, well-aged single malts? Find out for yourself, knowing that it's this one change behind any differences you find between the two in your glass.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A sack of perfumed malt sat on a harbour quay, custard and salted butter, flaxseed oil and Jelly Tots.

    Palate

Mouthfilling and slightly effervescent all at once, roasted chestnuts, chardonnay and flatbread with a hint of smoky baba ganoush.

    Finish

Well-rounded with seeded bread and clean oakiness as well as lingering smoke.

    Overall

This is still part of the I family alright, but Islay has also left its impression on the finished whisky, see how 10% peated single malt has affected the overall character.

    Mezcal?

I challenge anyone not to nose this and immediately be transported to a recipe for a Smoky Margarita. There's still the richness from the other older whiskies though, and on balance it's a very enjoyable whisky.
