“I've only ever had the rare old expression of Mortlach ( which is one of my all time favorites) so to see something with an age statement from them I couldn't resist and I am glad I got this. The nose is rich and inviting with lots of cinnamon/raisin, the palate is glorious so much character, nutty , spicy, oaky and even a little bit smoky with a lovely raisin and orange marmalade finish leaving an oily feel in your mouth. For a 12 year old Speyside whisky it doesn't get much better than this I am really loving this bottle gonna have to go get another for just $ 50 totally worth it. Thanks Mortlach !Cheers! Mortlach 12 Year Old

This is a 12 year old single malt produced at the Mortlach distillery in Speyside, unveiled in 2018 as part of a trio (including a 16 Year Old and a 20 Year Old). This particular expression features the subtitle The Wee Witchie, which comes from the name of the tiny still that distils a portion of the whisky. It's drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, and packs a hearty punch of meaty Mortlach-y malt at its core, supported by dried fruit and toffee notes.

Nose

Damson, toasted almond, cinder toffee and heavy barley.

Palate

Warming oak and soft raisins, with a bit of olive oil salinity mixed in.

Finish

A bit jammy, a bit nutty, some lingering citrus oils cutting through.

Terrific Malt

An interesting mix of fresh and dried fruit flavours on the nose and through to the finish. This is the first from this distillery and I want to explore more, I already have the 16 yo waiting in the wings. Very well made, complex, interesting, not overly sweet, this is no sherry monster or whatever you call them, but very satisfying.

A nice smooth malt full of flavour and will getting some more for the drinks cabinet

Very decent example

We bought this as part of a deal and in that deal there are absolutely no complaints. Very nice and a good example of its kind. Should have 5 stars at the reduced price but at full price I think I can only give it 4.

If you like Speyside whisky give this a try.

I purchased a dram sample for my son in a five sample box. After trying the mortlach 12 yr I found it very smooth and very nice on the pallet. I have always praised macallen gold but this is my new tipple. I know what I like and this is at the top of my list for a Speyside whisky.
