Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: Profound, complex and dry overall. Rich yet elusive, it really takes time to open up, first offering liquid dried fruits; figs, dates or prunes and a trace of treacle toffee.
Palate: A voluptuous, oily texture, with a bitter-sweet and gingery, slightly drying start. Intense, with masses of charred wood, oak-smoked meats, honey, burnt treacle tart and ash.
Finish: Long, smooth, sweetly honeyed and elegant, with slowly rising fragrant wood smoke, ash, salt and a subtle, chilli like heat; followed by cooling eucalyptus.

Lagavulin 25 Year Old - 200th Anniversary Edition Reviews

My email is. [email protected]

I don’t have a review, although reading everyone’s reviews I’m sure that this bottle is as perfect as perfect can be! I collect one of a kind bottles of this kind. I have it still wrapped up in its original packaging doing nothing but sit in the dark box in a glass display case. I’m glad to hear that it’s a great bottle!!!

Thanks Laga..

Thank you Laga...

This is cracking by ANY whisky lover who has tasted a few hundred whiskies or so... The 'muppet' below is clearly exactly that. Worth every penny, thank you once again Laga.... You have produced a whisky so tasty & complex that every dram you drink will continue to turn out something new.

Top of the top!

Amazing. One of the best lagavulin ever.

Best of the Best of Islay

The new Lag 25 is truly a phenomenal bottling. This is an incredibly complex scotch with many layers on the nose and palate. Although matured exclusively in sherry casks, it is not sickly sweet that can ruin many a scotch. The peat, salt and sweetness are all subtle and mixed with chocolate, fudge, berries, spice, etc. It is rich and viscous. I'm an Islay fan and this blows away any Islay scotch I have tasted to date. Yes the price is ridiculous but what's inside is truly special. Relative to other recent $500 Islay bottling, this is easily worth double the price.

If I should review this baby without any regard to the price it would be a 96 out of 100.
Nose: This one needs a couple of drops of water and 30 minutes in the glass to open up, but then, it´s all worth the wait. Peat of course, some sultanas in a bitter chocolate fudgy thing.
Palate: A 16 yo on steroids. Big and bold, yet refined and complex. Every sip opens up a new taste.
Just for fun i took a cpl of drops of 8yo Lagavulin in the glass, and made a easy 98 out of 100.
Aftertaste: Medium, soft and moutcoating,
It leaves you with a crave for more.
Now to the price....
A 16 yo costs app 49pounds wich makes it cost 3 pounds a year for the maturation and destilling and package.
A 25 yo costs app 800 pounds wich makes it cost 32 pounds a year for the same thing.
I definitely understand that it costs more to make but 10 times the 16 yo per year??
Still, these are crazy times and it will surely sell.
Fantastic dram at a sick price.

A Deliciously Deep and Complex Dram to be Savoured Not Wasted

Well, just to get things clear.... This is well worth every penny and should be savoured.... It sounds like the muppet two below had guzzled his whole bottle in a single offering.... What a waste!!

This is a deeply complex drop of scotch, multi layered with many many flavoured facets released depending on the rate of dilution.
Always a Sherry monster fan, this is right up there with the best in my humble opinion given the addition of the smokey undertones not always present in a Sherry cask.....
A fabulously festive dram...

Don't know what he drank.

Opened my bottle. Worth every cent. Lagavulin is awesome. As always.

The price... What a shame, only 8000 bottles at this price level.

If the distillery could have produced a higher number of bottles, and the price was the half of this price, much more of the Lagavulin fans could have bought this product. Ok, I know about the 8 year old anniversary edition, but it's not the same as a 25 year old whisky...

A tribute to all the Lagavulin fans should be a much more available 25 year old whisky, also when it comes to the price...

Nose: The price stinks.

Palate: No taste at all.

Finish: Good bye.

I have other pricy whiskies I want to buy instead of this. Disappointed. I have the money, but it's too hard to accept a price defined of those 8000 bottles.
