This year's 12 year old Lagavulin Special Release is part of the distillery's 200th anniversary celebrations! Aged in refill American oak hogsheads, it's the fourteenth of these excellent 12 year old bottlings to feature in the Special Releases and is the most affordable in this year's selection (the unpeated Caol Ila being slightly more expensive than the Laga this time around).

Classic Laga smoke, if a little sweeter, with pungent peat, green chilli and bitter lemon.
Caramel notes star on the palate, similar in this respect to the 2015 release, but with the smoke is sweeter and less sooty. Instead, there's more evocative seaweed-covered harbour wall notes.
Long, smoky and satisfying.

I've bought and loved every Lagavulin 12yo from the 2010 edition. All of them lovely. This is somewhat different, not as dark. A bit drier, but still sweet, and lovely vanilla and spice. Awsome stuff.
Wow...... the boys and girls at Lagavulin have out done themselves with this fantastic 12 year old I can't recommend it highly enough to all you single malt conisers out there especially Captain Bishty .... you know who you are?
My favorite dark alcohol. A drop of water opens it up like a like a old friend after a breakup. Highly recommend the 12 year old release, if budget is an issue, try the 16 year old first and then wonder how anything else can be better. Then have your mind blow when you try the 12 year.
