Lagavulin 1999 Distillers Bottling Note

It's not surprising that people love this particular Distillers Edition. Heavily peated Lagavulin single malt from Islay + a finishing period in casks that previously held sweet, dark, rich Pedro Ximénez Sherry (in fact it's 'double matured' in PX casks). Need we say more?

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Peat and iodine go toe to toe with sticky dried fruits including sweet Corinth raisins, but they all join together and become friends.

Palate: Vanilla, rum and raisin, rich smoke, juicy sherry, hazelnut, sticking plasters...

Finish: Long with cocoa, porcini mushroom and toffee.

Overall: Gorgeous. Enjoy with blue cheese.

Lagavulin 1999 (bottled 2015) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition Reviews

A very fine dram.

Oily with peaty smokiness mixed with dark chocolate and spices with hints of fresh nuts, an incredibly well balanced whisky.

Great whisky from a great distillery.i

This is a fantastic whisky, smokey, complex and satisfying. A very pleasant change. Highly recommended.

Better than Lagavulin 16 year old?

Lagavulin (and Islay whiskies) has been one of my favourite brand among Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Caol Ila. Especially Lagavulin 16 yo has been my big favourite. Now testing this one and try to figure out this one. It is smooth, well balanced and very enjoyable and defenitly different than 16 yo. Excellent whisky.

Beyond good

Smokey front with lingering smooth finish. I have had some good scotch, but this is beyond good!

wonderful whisky

My first whisky I tried was the Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1998 (bottled 2014) and this was the experience why I decided to love whisky. After a lot of tastings, Lagavulin is simply the best! I love also the 8y, 16y, Distillers Edition 1999,...

Lagavulin 1999 (bottled 2015) Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish - Distillers Edition

Fruktig, något spritig. Inte särskilt rökig så inte alls de smaker jag söker hos en Lagavulin.

I love the std 16 yr and this is definitely the same family. The sherry works and the final product is simply delicious. Not as much smoke and peat, but it's still there. Keep one at the back of the shelf for special occasions.

Can you improve on perfection?

I really like the "standard" Lagavilin 16yo and judging by the reviews many think it to be the best whiskey ever so tinkering with the formula was always going to be a gamble. I personally think it paid off. This is without a doubt one of the nicest, if not the nicest, whiskey I have ever tasted. Perfect smoky sweetness and finish. Is it worth £20+more than the standard? Probably for a special occasion. Will I buy again? Yes, but I won't be sharing!
