All reviews prior tell the tale; just a wonderful value with layers of malt barley flavors that stay full/robust thru the finish. A nice touch of brineyness somewhere in the middle.
Smell: Rich with spices from the oak casks, reminds me of rye. Has a marshmellowy foundation, but not too sweet smelling. Taste: definitely upfront with the tingly spices from the American oak casks, as expected, but held together with a very mellow matrix of long-lasting malt. There seems to be a hint if brininess The advertised white chocolate is definitely noticeable in the aftertaste using olfactory. Feel: Well-bodied, warm burn on the tongue, but gentle on the nose. Just right. Overall: Simple and safe flavour profile, but this bottle is exceptionally well-balanced. It's a very smooth and mouth watereing dram for its low cost.
Big fan of Glen Moray whiskies, very underrated in my opinion, anyway been drinking the 15 Heritage for some time now and really love it so thought I would try the 12 before the 18.Well this really has exceeded my expectations. It has a really fruity nose with vanilla, honey and butterscotch and the taste is a sort of extension of this plus berry fruits leading to a quite long finish with toasted oak. The mouthfeel is very light and I could see this as a perfect summer scotch chilled in the fridge.Excellent whisky from an excellent distillery, highly recommended.
I have been drinking Glen Moray whiskies for a few years now and think that they are one of the most enjoyable and underrated whiskies out there. I have had the 15 yr old Heritage for some time and find it 10 out of 10 so thought I would try the 12yr old . Well I am very impressed with this. It is very light in mouthfeel but very very fruity on the nose and palate with a vanilla background and hints of toffee. This then moves to berry fruits and finishes off with some toasted oak. This will make a really refreshing scotch for a summers evening chilled off in the fridge !! This looks like a natural colour as well, so well done Glen Moray.
I must admit, your tasting notes are spot on. Love the finish on this! ( I love apricot jam ) Your description of this says it has an approachable flavour profile and I have to admit that while I am not overly fond of the sweeter whiskies, I will make an exception for this distillery. I have not, until now, tried the Speyside whiskies and being an American, have never even heard of Glen Moray till today but I have become instantly fond of this one and will most definitely buy it again. A wonderful everyday whisky.
