Brora 38 Year Old 1977 Bottling Note

An exciting Brora that promises more "smoke, ash and peat" than recent releases, this 38 year old single malt from was distilled back in 1977. Matured in American oak hogshead and refill European oak butts, 2,984 bottles have been produced this year. It's uncertain how many more of these releases we'll have to enjoy, with this fantastic distillery having sadly closed back in 1983.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Subtle smoke slowly builds with initial oiliness and farmyard character too. Honeyed ash develops with fresh lemon peels.

Palate: Smoke is established now, offering a nutty edge, but doesn't take over, instead the evocative citrus becomes the star of the show. Lemon peel (think fresh from a canelle cutter) moving toward grapefruit on the late palate. First class.

Finish: Hints of the coast now, with more grapefruit combining with sea salt and lingering spice.

User Reviews of the Brora 38 Year Old 1977 (Special Release 2016)

Very smokey, very smooth, very drinkable

I am not a Scotch expert. I am a normal gentleman that has tried several Single Malt Whiskeys in restaurants, and wants to learn more. To do that I recently purchased 10 samples. At least one was from each region of Scotland. I had no regard for price. The goal was to try some very fine Whiskeys. I wanted to learn. This review is based on that. I am giving each sample 5 stars simply because I do not want to disparage a fine whiskey just because I do not yet understand it.

I loved this dram. Very smokey, very smooth, very drinkable. This is a wonderful Whiskey

Best for Ever

This 38 seems to be my favorite of them all. Unfortunately I only can buy one bottle.
