Arran 12 Cask Strength #5 Bottling Note

The fifth batch of Arran's popular 12 Year Old Cask Strength single malt has arrived. This time the whisky has been bottled at 52.9% ABV - suitably intense and flavoursome. These cask strength bottlings from the island distillery are good value for money too...

A little disappointed

I'll start by saying that I have tried many of the Arran offerings and enjoyed them all. I appreciate the 46% and non-chillfiltration. The basic 10yo is a great go-to dram for any occasion. This version, though, left me underwhelmed. Compared to other cask-strengths - usually about 57 -60%, this is only 52.9 - only 6.9 over the usual 46% bottlings. I felt, then, it lacked to sheer ooomph (to use the technical term) that I have come to expect with cask strength whiskies like 105 or A'bunadh. That said, I'll enjoy finishing the bottle but it's doubtful that I would buy another. I'll stick to the 10yo and save the cash.
