Nose: Characteristic, but not overpowering Ardbeg peat combines with linseed and soapy, slightly floral notes. Perhaps a little Tabac? HobNob biscuits, brown sugar, hemp and golden barley all piled beside the fire in a fisherman's cottage by the harbour. Crushed shells, soot, bergamot and almonds. Candied peels develop.
Palate: White pepper, peat, a few more almonds. A lick of sooty seaweed makes itself more and more known and hints at the finish to come.
Finish: Now the soot really takes over with ash, embers and espresso coming to the fore. Mandarin segments too. Fantastic stuff!
Overall: Cor yeah! A sooty Ardbeg single cask that develops from glorious nose to satisfying finish.
