Octomore 17.1 sets the benchmark for the range, using Scottish mainland Concerto barley and full-term first-fill bourbon maturation to deliver waves of dry, earthy smoke against vanilla, tablet and malt syrup.

Octomore 17.1
Full-term in first-fill bourbon and nothing else - this is Octomore with the working out shown. Vanilla milkshake, Scottish tablet and warm custard tart run into pear drops and malt syrup, before the peat arrives in waves of dry, earthy smoke and smouldering ash. Salinity cuts the sweetness and keeps it sharp. 81 PPM, five years old, and far more composed than either number suggests.
The Second Step
Octomore 17.2 takes the same mainland Concerto barley through French oak and a first-fill port barrique finish, layering strawberry, blackberry and cassis over a steadily building peat smoke.

Octomore 17.2
The detour. Five years in French oak that previously held Californian red wine and bourbon, then finished in first-fill port barriques - so strawberry, blackberry and cassis land before the smoke does. Peppery and earthy underneath, with lemon zest and lime oils for lift. Less overt smoke on the nose than you'd expect at 81 PPM, but smoky right through the structure.
The Islay Expression
Octomore 17.3 uses Islay Concerto barley grown at Irene's Field on Octomore Farm, malted to 132.1 PPM and matured in a cuvée of first-fill bourbon, Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein and Syrah casks.

The one grown at home. Islay Concerto barley from Irene's Field on Octomore Farm, malted to 132.1 PPM and matured in a cuvée of first-fill bourbon and second-fill Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein and Syrah. Salted caramel, smoked apple and toasted coconut give way to praline and vanilla cream, then deeply charred peat wraps the palate in dry, ashy smoke. Citrus oils and salinity cut through. Weather-beaten, coastal, and the most complete thing in the series.
