“So I saw a bottle in my local cocktail bar and asked the bartender what the sketch was, he poured me a splash and - once I'd tried it - told me it was spectacular with whiskey. I could see that, I thought, but I still imagined it as an Aperol-esque base for a summery spritz or fizz. I've been sticking a hefty slug of Angostura's incredibly orangey orange bitters into citrussy G&Ts as a summer drink, so I thought I'd bag myself a bottle and serve as recommended with tonic. Obviously it's perfect, but the whiskey story? Yeah, he was right. Make a Manhattan with it (bourbon based, not rye - it suits the sweetness), making sure you remember your aromatic bitters, and you've got something magical. If you want a Manhattan, that ain't it, but if you think of it as a Manhattan that's been hanging out with a classically-garnished Old Fashioned (or vice versa)...ooh, hallelujah.”
