The Cotswolds Distillery in Stourton is up and running - hooray! This is their Cotswolds Dry Gin, made with juniper, coriander and angelica root macerated in their pure wheat spirit for 24 hours. Following this, they add a botanical selection including bay leaf, grapefruit, lime, black pepper, cardamom seed and Cotswolds lavender to their carter head still for distillation. To bring it down to bottling strength, a robust 46% ABV, they use naturally refined Cotswolds water.
The Cotswolds Distillery also released its own single malt whisky in 2017 - so you can get your hands on a bottle now!
Light, floral juniper blends well with the Cotswolds lavender. This soon gives way to the vibrant grapefruit peel and warming cardamom.
Opening with grapefruit, fresh juniper and black pepper, followed by herbaceous notes of bay leaf, coriander and angelica. More lavender brings a bright, delicate character to the full-bodied gin.
Refreshingly clean on the palate, with lime and bay leaf.
Beautiful bottle and aesthetic...sadly, for me, its nothing special... Great for gin based cocktails because of the underlying notes, but with a g&t?...very flat, personally speaking.
Approaching sixty, I have always disliked gin, never understood the attraction and with currently more than thirty five Malts open and being consumed slowly, you can see where my loyalty lies. This Gin is a game changer. From the first taste I was hooked... I can even drink it neat which NO other gin has persuaded me to do. The botanicals predominately pink grapefruit and lavender are delicious and each and every way I have tried drinking this I have enjoyed it. I have even started buying gins now on the back of it. I understand we all have different palates but anyone not enjoying this suggests a faulty palate, not a faulty gin.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment in my gin collection. Beautiful bottle, great reviews but to me this just doesn`t taste right. Meh...
Phenomenal. Wonderful citrus blast with juniper bite. Well deserving of its status as best gin in the world.
Probably the finest, best botanically balanced gin I have ever tasted. We also went to the distillery last fall and had a blast. Well informed, pleasant people willing to share their time and knowledge with us. Does extremely well with G&Ts, but makes an unbelievable dry martini.
