Cotswolds Single Malt Bottling Note

Very exciting stuff here, folks! This is the first single malt whisky from the Cotswolds Distillery (as well as being the first single malt whisky ever distilled in the Cotswold countryside!). A much-anticipated release, which has been produced using barley grown in the Cotswolds, distilled in their Forsyths copper pot stills (Mary & Janis) and aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and red wine casks. We've been eagerly awaiting this whisky, and we know plenty of you have been too!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The first thing you notice are spicy cereal notes, malt and porridge, then comes the fruit - orange peel and lemon. Grassy and floral flavours followed by marzipan.

Palate: Beautiful texture, creamy and round, with sweet citrus fruit and black pepper.

Finish: Good length. There’s vanilla custard and a lift of aromatic freshness that will make you want another sip.

Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky Reviews

Just OK..

Easy drinking, light whiskey. Not very complex, light nose, tasty palate but quick finish and unfortunately quite forgettable. I really wanted to love this whiskey after I tried their Founders edition which is amazing and I highly recommend. Just felt very disappointed in this bottle and wish I paid the extra £20 for the founders edition. I felt maybe the 5star reviews were more a sign of national pride over substance!

However for an easy drinking light whisky its just ok..

Top dog

Forget brands, high prices, blah blah blah.
This is bang up there and at a very reasonable price. Could drink a bottle in one go

Glad to see a fine whisky in England

Very smooth and rounded.
Sampled a 50ml bottle from Burford Garden Center,a perfect way to enjoy a taster around the fire on cold Sunday evening.
Keep the good work up, very satisfied customer .

I bought my first bottle some weeks ago and it did not last long! It will not be my last. This is now one of a number of favourites.

I love the taste of whisky but this one is an absolute classic, probably the best I’ve ever had, very impressed. Will be ordering another for my Birthday in May :).

At last

Highly enjoyable smooth whisky. A perfect balance of flavours, understated, complete. At last, an English single malt that can complete with the best scotch whisky.

Goodbye Islay ..... Hello Shipston.

Having lived in Tredington for many years not a mile away from the distillery; now in Gloucestershire (still the Cotswolds) .
This is brilliant ! A bottle a week, (plus gruyere cheese).
Must visit the distillery.
I've discovered year round Christmas..

A personal and intimate dram.

This was the finest single Malt at the Manchester Whisky Festival on Saturday 27/10/18

This is a beautiful whisky, and surprisingly complex for its young age. You get a hint of the red wine barrel on the nose, and right at the end of the taste too. I look forward to seeing what this distillery does in the future.

Re Misnomer

Whisky is not a controlled name: however Scotch Whisky is. So, no problems with the name. Regardless, this whisky, despite its youth is a lovely drop.

A Masterpiece

This is an exquisite Whiskey.

Not a Scotch whisky but still a very good English one!

Was lucky enough to obtain a bottle of the 1st release after visiting the distillery last year.
Impressive set up and their gin is fantastic as well. The whisky is very good, highly recommend it. Go on, you know you want to!

To the reviewer who “thought” the word “whisky” was a controlled name: why not spend a few minutes making sure you know what you’re talking about, before you dis the fruit of someone’s labour with a pointless 1-star review (all the moreso when you’ve admittedly never even tried the product)?! It only takes a few minutes, and you’d have discovered that the term “whisky” can be and is used by the Japanese, French, Dutch, Taiwanese, Australians, Swedes.....the list goes on. Also, what “origins in Scotland” are you referring to, when those origins are every bit as Irish as they are Scottish?

Very accomplished

Gave 4 rather than five to take into account some other Whisky you can get for the same price. This whisky apparently was designed to fit in with Costwolds where it is distilled and to taste good even when young and they hit the bullseye on both of those.
Agree with the tasting notes, I get some butter as well but that is probably due to oiliness (in a good way). There is some youthful heat but not in a bad way and in line of the Big Red comment, feels more like a cinnamon heat (old fashioned cinnamon balls) than a Chile or Pepper heat.
Bought another to put away for later times.

Far more complex than a 3 year old whisky should be. Beautifully balanced, with an interesting red wine finish right on the back of the nose. I'll be keeping an eye on this distillery for sure. 5 stars.

A whisky that is punching well above it's weight. Picked this up at a food festival in Gloucestershire and im glad i did. Lovely nose of honey and marzipan, soft in the mouth with a orange marmalade finish. Beautiful. Will be buying more while its less known!

For a young whisky it punches well above it's weight.
Delicious and highly recommended

A lovely drop.

Excellent flavor.

This is an excellent new-comer to the market. Has all the flavor and character of a single malt scotch! Nice and spicy, nutty flavour. Cutting with just a touch of water really opens it up.

No wonder they are winning awards.

Like chewing Big Red gum

Normally I'm pretty good about my tasting notes matching those of others. And I do get the sweet and fruity nose, spicy plate, and fruity finish with a lingering spice. But I can't get beyond that all of these add up to chewing a piece of Big Red cinnamon gum. It is such a resemblance that my jaw automatically starts to chew the whisky. Very odd...but tasty.

What a whisky!

Bought two bottles of the inaugural release after a distillery tour. The nose is so similar to the Dalmore 15 and the taste isn't far off either.
Rich mouthfeel and full of flavour and character. Looking forward to future bottling.

Really Spirity, definately needs water to calm it down

Very Young tasting whisky; long peppery aftertaste, definitely honeyed, slight marmalade, lovely smooth mouthfeel once the water is added, unpleasant neat. Would definitely buy future mature bottlings if this initial juvenile offering is anything to go by

20th November 2017

Awesome flavour

Fantastic Whisky, quirky and bound to be a hit! Looking forward to the next batch!

25th October 2017

Game changer

Great on the nose, fruity on the sip, outstanding stuff.

24th October 2017

A superb whisky, unbelievable character considering how young it is. A true testament to the investment in ingredients and casks they use.

19th October 2017

Great single malt

I have a bottle ordered but not had a chance to pick it up yet but I have sampled some of the test batch back in 2016 and it tasted wonderful then so I just had to have a bottle from the first barrel!
From memory, it had a lovely treacly taste that stayed strong in the mouth. Hoping the fully matured product is even more pronounced!

18th October 2017

fantastic stuff

I pre ordered two bottles of this whisky 4 yrs ago. Got my hand on this at the harvest festival open day. When I tasted this whisky I was totally overwhelmed . For a you whisky the taste is fantastic. I boughtba 3rd bottle on the daybto drink as the other 2 are going in storage. I have put a bet on with my wife that this whisky will win whisky of the year soon.

17th October 2017

Fantastic new entrant. Bravo!!

Tried this at their launch party. This single malt is a real corker. Fantastic fruit in the spirit and sweet notes of butterscotch. It beats my favourite Scottish (Benromach 12yo)
