The Cotswolds Distillery in Stourton is up and running - hooray! This is their Cotswolds Dry Gin, made with juniper, coriander and angelica root macerated in their pure wheat spirit for 24 hours. Following this, they add a botanical selection including bay leaf, grapefruit, lime, black pepper, cardamom seed and Cotswolds lavender to their carter head still for distillation. To bring it down to bottling strength, a robust 46% ABV, they use naturally refined Cotswolds water.
The Cotswolds Distillery also released its own single malt whisky in 2017 - so you can get your hands on a bottle now!
Light, floral juniper blends well with the Cotswolds lavender. This soon gives way to the vibrant grapefruit peel and warming cardamom.
Opening with grapefruit, fresh juniper and black pepper, followed by herbaceous notes of bay leaf, coriander and angelica. More lavender brings a bright, delicate character to the full-bodied gin.
Refreshingly clean on the palate, with lime and bay leaf.
Truly brilliant. Martini to perfection. Took a trip to the distillery to see the process and was even more amazed.
I would love to see who wrote this is a "beyond vile" gin and see what ratings they have given other gins because maybe they shouldn't be drinking gin! I happen to think this is beyond my wildest dreams for a dream.
I guess the "gin purists" out there don't like the non-chill filtering side of things. Well I say, 'to h*ll with em!' This gin is remarkable. 3 cheers for cotswolds!
Equal parts turpentine, pink grapefruit fresh, and elderflower liqueur---fantastically tasty; ice only
