Backwoods Distilling Co., started in 2017 by Bree and Leigh Attwood, shows their love for whisky. It's in the Victorian High Country. This craft distillery aims to make spirits that bring back memories, start conversations, and connect people.
They use only Australian grains. They get their malts from Voyager Craft Malt in the Riverina region. Voyager makes small-batch, single-origin malts from local, independent growers. Backwoods also uses local casks and native botanicals. This makes their single malt and rye whisky, and gins, reflect the local area.
Their spirits have won many awards. They have been recognised at the World Whiskies London Spirits. They've also been named at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards. Their single malt whisky won the top trophy at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards in November 2022.
Backwoods Distilling Co. also focuses on sustainability. They send their used grain to local farms for animal feed. This makes the distillery almost waste-free. They get their gin's botanicals from Victorian suppliers who harvest sustainably. This shows their care for the environment and the local community.
