This expressive wine from Austria is made from 100% blaufrankisch, one of Austria’s most renowned varieties, by Weingut Dorli Muhr. It’s produced in Carnuntum in the east of the country, with Samt & Seide translating to ‘velvet & silk’ – a reference to its style. Grapes are whole-bunch fermented in wooden casks, partially foot trodden and fermented with natural yeasts. It’s aged first for one year by parcel, then expertly blended and aged in large oak barrels.
