Rust en Vrede, meaning 'rest and peace' not 'rest in peace', is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa dating back to 1694. This is its flagship bottling, a Bordeaux-esque blend of cabernet and merlot with some syrah in there too. This is drinking beautifully now but you could keep this for at least another ten years and it will just get better. It's definitely a wine that needs food, the beefier the better.
This has a really spicy nose with tobacco, cedar, clove and cinnamon showing prominently. The palate is fresh with plum and blackcurrant fruit, firm, ripe tannins, and a long leathery finish.
