Vinho verde means 'green wine' in Portuguese and refers to the fact that it is sold young rather than the colour. You can actually buy red vinho verde. There's a top fact to amaze your dinner guests. It's a speciality of the Minho region in Northern Portugal, the coolest part of the country. This example from Esparao is a blend of three native grapes: avesso, loureiro and alvarinho (aka albarino). It has seafood written all over it but nicely chilled will go with pretty much anything.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Stone fruit and herbs on the nose, nice and fresh. Clean and fruity on the palate, touch of citrus bitterness.
