Dry Creek is a historic property by Californian standards, founded way back in 1972 by David Stare in Sonoma County. 1972! Since then it has established a reputation as one of the region's finest proponents of cabernet sauvignon and the local speciality, zinfandel. This 2018 is made up of a blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 2% cabernet franc, 2% malbec, 1% petit verdot. This was aged for 19 months in French oak with around a quarter of the barrels being new. Five years after the vintage, this has now mellowed while keeping all its youthful fruit. This would be splendid with a nice juicy steak, served rare.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Blackcurrants, mint and tobacco on the nose. Richly fruity on the palate with subtle notes of toasty oak, spice and vanilla.
